ON LARGE CAPACITY AMMUNITION MAGAZINES Write or call Congress and tell your representative that we need common sense restrictions to keep us safe. What YOU Can Do: Call the Congressional switchboard (202) 224-3121 and tell your representative: "We need common sense restrictions to keep us safe. Support the ban on large capacity ammunition magazines by voting for HR308/S32" or Copy and paste the below letter into the message box on the government websites listed on the right: Subject: Keep us safe, support the ban on large capacity ammunition magazines (HR308/S32) Dear [enter official's name] Across the country criminals armed with weapons equipped with large capacity ammunition magazines have gone on numerous shooting sprees causing mass fatalities. When ammunition magazines are available in large sizes, capable of holding as many as 100 rounds of ammunition, the lethality of these attacks is significantly increased. In the January 2011 Tucson, AZ shooting, Jared Loughner was equipped with a large capacity ammunition magazine, allowing him to fire off more than 30 bullets in 15 seconds—killing six and wounding 13 others, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Large capacity magazines carry far more bullets than any civilian could possibly ever use. Restricting the size of ammunition magazines to no more than 10 bullets is common sense. A ban on large capacity magazines would not only reduce the capacity, but more importantly reduce the lethality of firearms. Moreover, we need to protect our police officers, who shouldn't have to confront so much firepower on the street: they deserve better. That's why I'm asking you to support HR308/S32. It's just common sense. Sincerely, [enter your name] |
