CRIME COMMISSION LAUNCHES GUN CONTROL AD STARRING VINCENT D'ONOFRIO
Law & Order Criminal Intent star urges Americans to call Congress to support the ban on large capacity ammunition magazines. Says "police officers shouldn't have to confront that much fire power, it's not fair"

NEW YORK-In a rare public appearance, Vincent D'Onofrio, star of Law & Order: Criminal Intent, urged Americans to protect law enforcement officials by calling on Congress to support the ban on large capacity ammunition magazines (HR308/S32). The 45 second ad specifically addresses the impact of lax gun control on law enforcement. It launches today on the web.

"Vincent D'Onofrio understands that sensible gun control is not only necessary to protect the public, but also the people who so selflessly defend and serve it: law enforcement. Mr. D'Onofrio's generous donation of his time and considerable talent will have a vital impact on the current debate. We are extremely grateful for his support," said Richard Aborn, President of the Citizens Crime Commission of New York City.

The Citizens Crime Commission of New York City enlisted D'Onofrio's help in response to the Tucson, AZ shooting in which the perpetrator was equipped with a large capacity ammunition magazine, allowing him to fire more than 30 bullets in 15 seconds-killing six and wounding 13 others, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. The ban on large capacity magazines was in effect from 1994-2004, at which point Congress failed to renew it.
